Gems is the official name for Nine Corporation Credits used by Nine Corpers to trade resources. This forms an integral part of the Nine Corporation Economy and allow Nine Corpers to access resources that are unavailbile to other talented people.

Gems was used informally as a name for credit by Nine Corpers since 2012. It had pretty much become the de facto name for credit by 2014 so the Nine Corporation decided to officially change the name.
